The council adopted an ordinance to authorize $25,780 to GM Baker and Son Moody’s for rehabilitation of well pump No. 3 (charged to water) and approved an ordinance fixing the city’s assessments for the cost of raising dilapidated structures in accordance with applicable West Virginia code and the city’s codified ordinances.
Council members also accepted a $459,300 contract with Race International Inc to demolish Clay School; the funding is split with $319,440 from a West Virginia DLAP grant and $139,860 from the project fund. Several vehicle and equipment purchases — including Ford Super Duty pickups, a telemetry system for tank levels, and a CDBG street reconstruction contract for Grandview Street and part of 12th Street — were presented as original propositions and scheduled for second reading where applicable.
In public-safety business, after a second reading the council adopted an ordinance authorizing the city manager to expend $19,000 with Mary K9 Services LLC of Norwich, Ohio, for the purchase of a police narcotics canine and training. The ordinance specifies $15,000 to the Stanton Canine Foundation and $4,000 to the police department. The mayor and clerk confirmed the motion’s adoption on a roll call.
Procedural votes and minutes: the council approved the February 17, 2026 council minutes and accepted minutes from the Public Works and Finance committees (02/17/2026). A motion to hold the Hall of Fame minutes from January 1966 was also approved.
