The La Verne City Council approved routine consent items and several staff recommendations that council discussed briefly prior to votes.
The register of audits and demands (consent item 2) was approved in the amount of $2,147,648.67. The city attorney reported the council, on motion, also authorized the city to participate in settlements with certain remnant defendants in opioid litigation and approved delegating approval of subsequent settlements with other manufacturers and distributors to the city manager; the council approved that action 5-0.
On a separate consent item, council debated a proposed salary-range increase for the vacant utilities manager position. Councilmember Bowen questioned increasing the salary range while the city faces a projected general-fund shortfall. JR explained this classification review is standard practice when a position is vacant; the adjustment reflects market comparisons and the certifications required for the role. Council approved the salary-range adjustment 5-0.
Each of these actions was recorded as part of the consent calendar and passed unanimously.
