Rhinelander Board says James Williams remodel on budget; ribbon-cutting set for April 20

Director of Business Services Bob Thom told the Rhinelander School Board on March 23 that the district’s referendum construction work on James Williams Middle School is largely paused until the end of the school year and is projected to be completed within budget.
Thom summarized project revenues and expenses: interest earnings of $1,286,799.11; bond proceeds of $26,000,000; donations of $414,157.68, for total revenue of $27,700,959.79. He reported total expenses of $21,967,676.54, including construction services, supplies, equipment, insurance and fees. Thom said the $26 million in bond proceeds is invested in certificates of deposit and Treasury bills through Ehlers Investment Services, currently returning 3.16%.
He announced a ribbon-cutting and open house for the James Williams Middle School remodel scheduled for April 20, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., with self-guided tours available following the ceremony. Construction activity will largely pause until the end of the school year, Thom said. No formal board action on the project budget was required at the March 23 meeting.
