Residents thank Garfield for repaving work and raise noise, barking concerns

During the public-comment portion of the April 28 Garfield council meeting, Abdel Sordana of 33 Wood Street thanked the city for the Harrison Avenue repaving project and said the improvements will make local errands easier: "I saw the video of the repaving. I thought it was pretty cool," he said.
Resident Jerry Ledford of 77 Morris Avenue raised a separate concern about noise and dog-barking. Ledford asked whether the city’s noise ordinance still took effect at 10 p.m., whether there is a morning quiet time, and how barking dogs should be reported. The clerk replied that the city’s noise ordinance runs from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and advised that officers trained to measure decibel levels can respond; callers were also directed to contact Bergen County animal-control when appropriate. Deputy Mayor Tana Raymond and the mayor encouraged residents to report persistent problems to police so officers can perform nuisance checks.
No change to the noise ordinance was proposed at the meeting; the council’s response focused on enforcement channels and referrals to county animal control. The council also highlighted the ongoing Harrison Avenue work, noting curbs and sidewalks then milling and paving are expected to finish in mid-June if weather and site conditions permit.
