Garfield honors firefighter Kyle Kovacs for admission to Naval Postgraduate School program

The Garfield mayor and council on April 28 presented a proclamation recognizing firefighter Kyle Kovacs for being accepted into the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS).
Council members praised Kovacs and his family for volunteer service to the city’s fire corps. Erin Delaney, the city manager, said, "You make the City of Garfield proud," and other council members echoed congratulations. The clerk read the resolution (R-207-26) noting Kovacs completed the two-year hybrid CHDS program and collaborated with homeland-security officials during the course.
The council adopted the resolution by roll call and invited Kovacs and his family forward for a photo. The proclamation recognizes Kovacs as the first firefighter from Garfield accepted into the CHDS program and notes the program’s sponsorship by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FEMA’s National Preparedness Directorate and the U.S. Navy.
The council urged residents interested in volunteer firefighting to contact the fire department for recruitment information; no formal policy change was proposed during the recognition.
