Monongalia County Schools honors SkillsUSA, Envirothon, bowling and student state officers

The Monongalia County Board of Education opened its April 28 meeting with extended student recognitions, celebrating district competitors and state champions.
Chair introduced the district’s SkillsUSA 2026 West Virginia gold medal winners and explained SkillsUSA’s mission to prepare students for careers in trades and technical fields. A student (speaker 4) said of competing, "competing with this team has been amazing," and another (speaker 7) added, "the opportunities I've got out of this is incredible."
The board also celebrated two students elected as state officers who will represent the county next year; Peyton Aaron was present and recognized, while another state officer had a scheduling conflict with a lacrosse game. Morgantown High’s bowling team was recognized as 2026 state champions; coach Nathan Hauser was acknowledged. The board announced the Morgantown High Envirothon team won the state competition, took home $5,000 in scholarships and will compete at the national tournament; a team member (speaker 13) explained the Envirothon's "fifth topic" this year focused on nonpoint source pollution from inactive mines.
Board members and coaches praised the students’ effort and the opportunities programs like SkillsUSA and Envirothon provide to build career and leadership pathways.
