Des Moines County supervisors approve two subdivision final plats, routine personnel hires and certify first-tier canvass

The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 12 approved routine payroll and claims, two one-lot final plats and multiple personnel hires and rate changes, and certified preliminary first-tier canvass results from the recent election.
Chair opened the meeting and presented payroll and claims totaling $795.58, which the board approved on a motion and voice vote. Planner Jared recommended approval of Resolution 2025-57, the final plat of Alexander Acres, a one-lot subdivision that will attach an undeveloped parcel to adjacent property with access on Lakewood Drive. Jared noted a response from the Natural Resources Conservation Service about CRP ground on the property but said he had no indication the owners plan development. The board moved to approve the final plat and the motion carried.
The board also approved Resolution 2025-58, the final plat for the Third Addition to the T Subdivision, a roughly 1.5-acre lot north of Burlington on 155th Street. Jared said the lot meets minimum size requirements, includes a widened 66-foot easement for potential future access, and could be developed for a home though no immediate plans were indicated.
In personnel business, the board approved anniversary pay increases for conservation staff (Brian Hamner and a conservation colleague), and an unpaid 15-hour leave for Mandy Spencer in the county attorney’s office. The board approved four local health personnel matters — new hires with listed start dates and salaries (Priscilla Trader, Annelyn Bart, Drew Tucker) and a 1.5-hour unpaid leave for Madeline Mark — and approved a part-time correctional center kitchen hire (Catherine Manley) at $16.80 per hour.
Chair read a retirement statement from Patty Brooks, who said she will retire effective Nov. 28 after nearly two decades serving people with mental illness and disabilities; the board approved a recognition motion.
The auditor, Sarah Dooney, reported preliminary first-tier canvass results and cautioned they are not final; the board voted to approve the first-tier canvass as presented. Dooney said some local races included write-in totals and that second-tier canvass figures will follow.
What’s next: the clerk’s and auditor’s reports are on file in the auditor’s office, and the board’s next steps include any follow-up on personnel onboarding and final canvass certification as the election process continues.
