La Porte to solicit bids for CDBG sidewalk project; completion and drawdown due Aug. 1

The board authorized staff to solicit bids for a Community Development Block Grant‑funded sidewalk project that will include sections of Madison Street (west to Tyler), portions of Lincoln Way to First Street, and work along Perry and Chicago toward First.
Mary Ann Richards told the board she does not have funding to do all Lincoln Way sidewalks and noted the state recently installed handicap ramps along Lincoln Way. Richards said timing will need to be coordinated with the school district for work around Boston School and that the project must be completed and the CDBG funds drawn down by Aug. 1. "I have to have the funds drawn down by August 1," Richards said.
The board moved and approved the solicitation. Richards and staff said they may prioritize Lincoln Way early in the contract schedule depending on the contractor's project management plan.
The item is an authorization to solicit bids; specific contract awards and construction timing will be set after bids are received and a contractor is selected.
