Caswell County commissioners authorized March 16 the use of county maintenance funds and vacant 9‑1‑1 salary funds to move forward on an emergency‑services infrastructure project.
Staff reported an estimate of $9,997.50 for water‑line work and identified $15,000 available from vacant 9‑1‑1 salaries, for a combined county contribution of $24,997.50 to reduce the FY‑27 funding need. 9‑1‑1 director Kenneth Everett and technical staff explained the plan to install an exterior generator transfer switch, relocate the generator to an outside pad with a 550‑gallon diesel tank and run an exterior service to the building’s server room. The exterior setup would give about four days of run time under generator power, staff said, improving on the current minimal run requirement.
Commissioners described conditions in the basement as a safety and reliability risk and moved to approve use of the specified maintenance and vacancy salary funds to begin the project; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said final invoices and any additional available salary funds could further reduce FY‑27 needs and that asbestos and demolition planning for an old detention building remain separate items under review.
The board directed staff to proceed with procurement and to report back on costs and any additional funding needs before the next fiscal year.
