Speakers urge CNUSD to support World Kindness Youth Conference and promote April 12 carnival

Shirley Zink, founder of the Simple Acts of Care and Kindness Foundation, recounted launching the World Kindness Youth Conference in 1998 to address bullying and youth suicide and said the program reached thousands of students before pausing during COVID. She said the foundation and volunteers are prepared to help restart the program and requested district encouragement and outreach to principals and PTAs.
Public commenters described the carnival’s three pillars — awareness, celebrating kindness, and doing acts of kindness — and outlined a K–12 writing contest with scholarships, community booths at no cost to public organizations, and volunteer opportunities. Organizers asked the board to promote the events through schools and consider allowing district participation.
Board members thanked the presenters and acknowledged the district’s role in community mental health and student engagement; staff indicated they would follow up as appropriate.
