During Old Business on March 23, Police Chief Jarred Anglin briefed the Emergency Services Committee on two lingering issues: possible enactment of a city noise ordinance and a traffic-pattern request under the 1st Avenue underpass.
Anglin said the department’s 2025 records show 27 noise complaints out of 6,226 total calls. He explained that a legally defensible noise ordinance would require decibel readers, calibration, neighborhood baseline data and other technical and administrative work that the department judged to be cumbersome. Committee members agreed to continue responding to noise complaints on a case-by-case basis rather than pursue immediate ordinance adoption.
On the traffic matter, Anglin reported he has contacted the Montana Department of Transportation to request a southbound turn arrow under the 1st Avenue underpass. The MDT told him the intersection will be reviewed during their scheduled work on the site this summer.
No ordinance or traffic-design changes were approved at the meeting; both items remain open for future action or review.
