Board removes teacher resignation from personnel report after heavy public comment

Rona Bondstein, a mentor and teacher at John Muir, said the colleague “possesses both the heart and aptitude of an outstanding educator” and urged the board to “reject his resignation and take no further action toward a non‑reelection.” Other speakers — including veteran teacher Gidget Suarez, parent and PTC president Karina Vega, and several students — emphasized the teacher’s classroom management, family communication, volunteerism and role as a male mentor in a vulnerable neighborhood.
After the public comment period, a trustee moved to amend the certificated transactions report to remove the resignation of John M. Ribeiro Jr. The motion was seconded and passed by roll call with five yes votes.
What happens next: The personnel amendment passed; the board will address staffing matters in closed session as appropriate and said it will follow personnel and legal processes already on the agenda.
