Commission approves privacy fence replacement at 159 Washington St.
Summary
The Canal Winchester Landmarks Commission approved CA26009 to replace and relocate an existing farm-style fence at 159 Washington St. with prefab cedar privacy panels; applicant Sean Kilbarger said panels will match neighbor height and come from Menards.
The Canal Winchester Landmarks Commission approved a certificate-of-appropriateness for a replacement privacy fence at 159 Washington Street on April 27.
Staff described the application as replacing and relocating a farm-style front and rear fence with cedar privacy panels visible from Washington Street. Staff said the commission previously approved a new fence at the property in 2019 and that the current proposal would consolidate styles so the street-facing elevation is consistent.
Applicant Sean Kilbarger told commissioners the panels come in sections (Menards was identified as the vendor) and that the family prefers the taller, more decorative panel style. "My wife likes the fancier, prettier looking one," Kilbarger said, adding the panels are cedar and would match the neighbor in height; he later gave an exact panel height of 5 feet 4 inches.
Commissioners asked about gates and connections to neighboring fences; Kilbarger confirmed a gate will be provided at the driveway side and the new work will connect to the neighbor's fence for a consistent appearance.
A motion to approve application CA26009 as presented passed by unanimous roll-call vote.
