Fort Thomas board schedules Bike Safety Village and Sam Scott slow ride May 17, asks for volunteers

The Fort Thomas Renaissance Board confirmed plans to pair a Bike Safety Village with the Sam Scott slow ride on May 17, and asked for volunteers to staff safety instruction stations and the ride turnaround.
"The bike safety village starts at 11:30, and then we'll have the Sam Scott ride, which is led by a police officer, so it's very safe," a committee member said, describing a program of helmet sizing, helmet-safety videos and short rule demonstrations for children. Volunteers are asked to staff the village from about 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; organizers will provide a short script for volunteers and rely on traffic cones and signs for course setup.
Board members also discussed repeating a bike-safety session in October and opening some roles to local council members and police department volunteers to increase visibility and safety staffing.
A member asked whether recently discussed e-bike ordinances are already in effect; staff replied that the ordinances are still in process and had not completed a first reading. "Nope. They're still working on that," the staff member said.
Organizers encouraged board volunteers to arrive early; they will circulate sign-up information and distribute safety pamphlets and children's activity books at the event.
The board will review final volunteer rosters and any required police coordination at a follow-up meeting.
