County approves $87,820 in testing to evaluate two potable wells

The Lowndes County commission approved contracting for subsurface testing of two troubled potable wells to determine whether either can be returned to service.
Staff said hydrologist Scott Siegler of Jim Statham and Associates recommended video and geophysical logging on the Alapaw Plantation Well 3 and the Stone Creek remote well after reviewing existing test data. The recommended scope and price was $43,009.10 per well, for a combined total of $87,820.
During discussion, staff described worst- and best-case outcomes: wells could be unsuitable for standard treatment and require nanofiltration, or the tests could locate a suitable zone that can be used with existing treatment infrastructure. The motion to approve contracting for the tests passed by voice vote with no opposition.
Staff said the testing is intended to clarify depth and zone information to guide decisions about returning wells to service or pursuing alternative treatment.
