Ocean Township board approves superintendent contract renewal and carries consent agenda

The Township of Ocean Board of Education voted to renew Superintendent Kelly Weldon’s contract and approved a slate of routine personnel, financial and policy items at its March meeting. Trustees also received a public comment commending the board for preserving intermediate-school club sports in the new budget.

The board carried the motion approving personnel items 6.1 through 6.6, during which the president acknowledged retirees and specifically noted the board’s action on the superintendent’s contract renewal. The motion was moved and seconded and subsequently carried by the trustees. Later votes approved financial management items 7.1 through 7.12 and instruction/student activities items 8.1 through 8.5; the record shows one abstention on a wrestling-related NJSIA item.

During the public-comment period, a virtual commenter identified herself as Liz Duffy of Wayside and thanked the superintendent and the board for responding to concerns about proposed cuts to club sports and for preserving those programs. “Preserving these opportunities makes a meaningful difference in our students’ lives,” Duffy said, adding praise for the superintendent’s leadership.

Superintendent Kelly Weldon thanked the board for their support and highlighted recent student achievements and programs during her remarks. The board also completed a final reading and vote on revised policies (item 9.1); the policies will become district policy following the approval.

The meeting included routine approvals of the March 10, 2026 minutes and a series of consent items across personnel and finance. The president paused briefly near the end of the meeting to acknowledge families and students who needed to leave early; no substantive new business was introduced.
