Arlington board upholds superintendent, approves roofing, paving and bus contract extension

After a motion to not grant the hearing, the board carried the motion and then voted to affirm the superintendent’s decision upholding the DHA. The board conducted roll-call exchanges during the item, with board members responding in the affirmative during both roll-call votes.

The board approved a separate paving contract for the high school’s main entrance, loop and student parking areas with Gibson Paving for $452,229, described by staff as a full scrape-and-replace job that includes striping and is expected to finish by June.
On transportation, the board approved a one-year extension with Durham School Services LP for $1,847,280.75 (term starting 07/01/2026 through 06/30/2027) and granted the superintendent authority to negotiate related contract terms. Dr. Clark told the board the recommendation followed a review of municipal options and a preference to remain with Durham for another year.
Board process and next steps: Several approvals were conducted by motion and voice vote. The disciplinary-appeal item included two recorded roll-call exchanges; the procurement and contract items were approved by voice vote following discussion and questions from members and staff. No additional follow-up votes were scheduled on these items at the meeting.
