Freeburg board approves IDOT materials proposal, advances fiber and street plans

The Freeburg Village Board on April 20 approved an IDOT Local Public Agency Material or Deliver & Install Proposal that will allow staff to go to bid for street materials and related deliver-and-install work.
Village Engineer Tim Pruett explained the process for the IDOT Local Public Agency material letting. Trustee Ramon Matchett Jr. moved to accept the proposal and Trustee Robert (Bob) Kaiser seconded; the board recorded a 6-0 roll call in favor.
In committee reports, the Electric Committee and village staff reported several operational items. Head Lineman Max Sallman said crews replaced two poles (Turkey Hill and N. Potter Street) and noted a low inventory of underground transformers; he said he will provide cost estimates. Village Administrator Matt Trout told trustees that a Socket Fiber agreement had been circulated and that Smithton and Millstadt have signed; the board agreed to move forward with finalizing the agreement. Public Works Director Chris Remick described recent maintenance work, an exhaust fan installation at the pool facility and identified the Country Side Lane culvert as needing replacement. Crew Leader Bob Jenkins described a recurring controller issue on the leaf truck and that he had contacted the vendor about warranty and an extended-warranty option.
Pruett said staff will survey Saturn Terrace to draft curb and gutter replacement plans. A surplus-equipment auction was discussed with the auction date noted as April 28 (correcting an earlier date listed as April 30).
The actions taken on the IDOT proposal and the board's agreement to pursue the fiber arrangement were recorded in the minutes; the file does not include engineering schedules, contract amounts or vendor names for the proposed work at this meeting.
