Maple Valley council reviews commission report, Elk Run Farm presentation and routine business

At its Feb. 10 meeting Council received an Elk Run Farm presentation supported by Tahoma High School students, heard the Lake Wilderness Advisory Commission annual report, approved consent items including vendor payments and equipment purchase, and received a snow event debrief and scheduling updates.
Maple Valley — At its Feb. 10 regular meeting the City Council heard several presentations, approved routine business on the consent calendar and received updates on snow response and community engagement.
Joy Throndsen, Community Outreach Coordinator for Elk Run Farm, presented on the program and four students from Tahoma High School voiced support during the presentation. Councilmember Victoria Schroff read a Black History Month statement written by staff member Rachiah Whipple.
Chair Pat Anderson presented the Lake Wilderness Advisory Commission annual report and the Council, Public Works Director Tawni Dalziel, City Engineer Steven Chen and City Manager Laura Philpot presented a letter of recognition to Senior Project Engineer Amy Shaw.
On the consent calendar Council approved minutes for Jan. 27 and Feb. 3, 2025; vendor and benefit checks, wire transfers and payroll related items totaling $2,853,120.80; and Resolution No. R-25-1952 authorizing the City Manager to purchase a 2024 Caterpillar Model 225 compact truck loader skid steer as a replacement. Earlier in the meeting the Council amended the agenda to remove Consent Calendar item 6(c), Resolution No. R-25-1951, before approving the remaining consent items. The motion to approve the consent calendar carried 6-0.
Public Works Maintenance Manager Desmond Weaver delivered a snow event debrief. The Council extended the meeting to 9:30 p.m. by unanimous vote to allow completion of business. Other items included a status note that bids for the Lake Wilderness Golf Course community clubhouse are being evaluated and a Mayor-requested fact sheet on long-term visioning for the City Hall complex. The Council also received a legislative update from Jim Hedrick and agreed to focus advocacy on the Highway 18 construction project.
The Council announced its next regular meeting for Feb. 24, 2025 at Lake Wilderness Lodge and adjourned at 9:17 p.m.
