Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denies many paroles, grants several pardons and conditional paroles

MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles convened Aug. 6, 2025, at 301 South Ripley Street and reviewed its daily docket under the authority of Alabama Code, Title 15, Chapter 22. The board denied parole in numerous cases and granted several paroles with conditions requiring reentry programming, monitoring and treatment; it also approved multiple pardons, including at least one full pardon restoring civil and political rights.

The meeting, called to order by Chair Hal Nash, included board members Darryl Littleton and Gabrelle Simmons and was recorded by board secretary Nicole Lewis. The board approved minutes from the Aug. 5 meeting by majority vote.

Why it matters: Parole denials with reset dates and conditional paroles shape when and under what conditions people leave custody. Jackson, Clarence Adams and Edward R. Reynolds; common conditions included completion of PREP, GPS monitoring and required mental-health or substance-abuse follow-up and drug assessment upon release. The board also granted pardons in multiple cases, including a full pardon restoring all civil and political rights to Brandon J. Holland and pardons with restrictions (relief from the habitual-offender act and/or firearms disabilities) for some applicants.

Notable pardon decisions: Brandon J. Holland was granted a full pardon restoring all civil and political rights. Other pardons granted included those for James B. Nelms (voting rights only) and several grants with restrictions that expressly limit relief to particular statutory disabilities, such as firearms restrictions or habitual-offender provisions.

Administrative actions and next steps: The board reviewed delinquent parolee files and other administrative documents during the session. The meeting adjourned at 1:32 p.m.; the next meeting was scheduled for Aug. 7, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. at the same Montgomery address.
