Ellis County commissioners voted unanimously to install stop signs at three neighborhood intersections in Road & Bridge Precinct 4, citing growing cut-through traffic from new development.
Road & Bridge staff member Zach told the court that development upstream has increased traffic through the neighborhood. “We’ve seen an increase in traffic from roughly probably 1,200 vehicles today. Probably looking at about 3,500 vehicles per day now,” he said, adding that volumes could approach 5,000 in the near future. Commissioners agreed the signs are a proactive measure to reduce traffic and safety risks.
Commissioner Butler moved to install stop signs at Victorian Drive & Carriage Drive, Spring Grove Drive & Burr Oak Lane, and Spring Grove Drive & Magnolia Drive; Commissioner Louis Ponder seconded. The motion passed with no opposition.
The county will implement the new signage through Road & Bridge Precinct 4 staff and monitor traffic conditions going forward.
