Ellis County Commissioners honor StormReady certification, endorse child-abuse prevention month

The Ellis County Commissioners Court on March 17 recognized Ellis County's achievement in becoming StormReady certified through the National Weather Service Fort Worth office and unanimously adopted a separate resolution endorsing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Paint the Town Blue campaign.
Alex Ming of the Ellis County Office of Emergency Management told the court the StormReady designation is aimed at preparing communities and saving lives during extreme weather events. "It just it's to prepare and save lives for extreme weather events," Ming said as the court read a resolution commending interagency coordination, warning dissemination and emergency response operations.
The court also heard from local volunteers representing child-protection organizations and the Child Welfare Board, who outlined plans for Paint the Town Blue activities in April. The resolution encourages residents, businesses, schools and community organizations to display blue ribbons, pinwheels and lights to raise awareness and support services provided by the Ellis County Children's Advocacy Center.
The judge and commissioners praised participating agencies, including the sheriff's office and the county fire marshal's office, for their roles in preparedness and child advocacy. County officials posed for photos with representatives after the recognitions.
