Board counsel said the intent is that "good cause" should include a reasonable basis — for example, if a parent is entitled to be represented by counsel and needs additional time for counsel to attend. "The intent there is a good cause would be if the parent or student is entitled to be represented by counsel," counsel said, adding that the superintendent would have discretion and that there is case law addressing such questions.
After brief clarifying questions, the board moved, seconded and the chair announced the motion passed. The board will incorporate the adopted language (DHA Final 4) into its policy manual; staff noted the redlined versions were available for review.
