Travel board meeting outlines Green River vacancy and mayor appointment timeline

A staff member told the Emery County Travel Board at a working meeting that the session was convened to address recent losses on the board and to review open applications for seats.
“This is a working meeting instead of our regular scheduled meeting just because of all the changes and unexpected loss we've experienced,” the staff member said, explaining the goal was to take questions, get a feel for applicants and return to a regular calendar in February.
Board members discussed a special vacancy tied to state legislation requiring a municipal representative from Green River when a municipality collects more than 50% of the transient room tax (TRT). The staff member said Green River will need to select a representative to fill that seat.
A city representative briefed the group on the timetable for the city's mayoral appointment process. “We'll post the 14 day notice tomorrow, and we'll accept applications or, like, declarations essentially of candidacy until the 20 third, which is Friday. And then on the 20 eighth, we will have the meeting of the council that will interview the folks that have sent in their applications. Then we'll have a mayor by the 20 eighth. So once the meeting's concluded, we'll do a swearing in that night,” the representative said.
Board members agreed to delay formal board appointments until after the mayor and council are in place so the new city leadership can participate in selections. The staff member said the board expects to resume a regular meeting schedule in February and to bring vacancy appointments forward to the county commission for approval next month.
No formal motions or votes were recorded during the working session; staff said any formal appointment or contract items will be placed on a future agenda for a recorded action.
