Details presented by staff included the recent delivery of the GMP, ongoing block and steel erection at other projects to demonstrate construction progress, and an estimate that some line items—such as the fully stocked culinary arts kitchen—contributed to the higher price. Staff told trustees they had identified potential value‑engineering areas and expected the GMP to come down “considerably” as work proceeds.
Board action: a motion to approve the construction manager at risk and accept the GMP was made, seconded and carried. Trustees were offered an opportunity to discuss procurement strategy and cost-control measures before voting.
Next steps: staff said the district will proceed with contract documentation and that a tentative groundbreaking for the CTE building is scheduled for June 17. The board will continue to receive updates as value‑engineering and final pricing occur.
