The Hawkins County Board of Education on Dec. 2 approved a five-year strategic plan for Hawkins County Schools that will take effect in January. Board members emphasized a goal of reviewing recommended updates annually rather than allowing the plan to sit unchanged for several years.
"I would like to attach review and updates of the strategic plan annually," Mr. Dixon said, arguing that periodic review will keep the plan active and guide longer-term decisions. Board members agreed they could later codify the annual review as part of board policy so it continues after current members leave.
The board moved, seconded and approved the strategic plan by voice vote; no opposition was recorded on the transcript. The board also approved the meeting agenda format and the consent agenda earlier in the session.
Board members asked staff to prepare any policy language and to bring recommended language back at a future meeting so that annual reviews are written into board practice.
