Court approves roughly $932,000 budget amendment for out-of-county inmate housing

The Collin County Commissioners Court approved a budget amendment of just over $932,000 to cover projected out-of-county inmate housing through June 2026.
Chief Deputy Matt Langan of the Collin County Sheriff's Office told the court the fiscal-year budget originally set aside $408,800 for out-of-county housing and the department had already exhausted that amount and used contingency funds earlier in the year. "This request specifically is for a little over $932,000 to cover out of county inmate housing through June 2026," Langan said, adding that after the amendment the housing account balance would be about $1,997,635.
Commissioners complimented the Sheriff's Office for cost-saving measures that had reduced overtime and housing pressures; a motion to approve the amendment was made and seconded, and the court voted 5–0 to adopt the requested funding adjustment.
Next steps: Funds will be used to cover out-of-county housing needs for the remainder of the fiscal year; the Sheriff's Office said it expects actual needs may be slightly below the projection but requested the amendment to avoid shortfalls.
