Monroe County approves $25,719 timber-sale distribution to four fire departments

County staff member Miss Burne told the board that the Indiana Department of Natural Resources retained 15% of the proceeds and the county received $25,719. She described the statutory and administrative framework for distributing timber-sale receipts and the standard minimum distribution of $1,000 to each participating department, while noting the board could elect a larger allocation.
The chair moved to distribute the full sum equally among the departments identified in the packet: Beam Blossom Township Volunteer Fire Department, Bloomington Fire Department, Ellisville Fire Department and Monroe Fire Protection District, at $6,429.75 each (fund number 1000). A second was recorded and the board signified approval with aye votes. The chair announced, “Motion carries 3 0.”
The motion directs staff to process the fund transfers under fund number 1000. The chair also noted there was a question about money in the fund that may not be county general and said the board could revisit distribution if additional funds are later identified.
What’s next: Staff will execute the distribution and may return to the board for further action if the county’s fund accounting identifies additional restricted funds.
