Magoffin County fiscal court approves veterans road namings, fund transfers and routine appointments

Magoffin County’s fiscal court approved two resolutions to dedicate state road segments to local veterans, along with routine administrative actions including fund transfers, board appointments and road adoptions.
A veterans organization representative (S8) read a resolution honoring Corporal Fred Lamar Sager and the court adopted the measure to designate a portion of Kentucky Route 460 as Corporal Fred Lamar Sager Highway. The court then approved a second resolution read by the same representative to name a portion of Kentucky Route 1635 as Private Hargis Salyer Jr. Memorial Road. Both resolutions were adopted by voice vote.
Earlier the court considered and approved a set of fund transfers proposed by county staff (S3): the representative outlined transfers including $70,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund, $14,000 to LGEA and other line items referenced during the presentation. The judge moved and the court approved the financial items by voice vote.
Other motions approved at the meeting included: • Authorization to advertise bids for road materials and related services (diesel, gasoline, oil, culvert tile, pipe, gravel, asphalt and hauling services). • Approval of the McLaughlin County extension district board budget for FY 07/01/2026–06/30/2027 as presented. • Appointments and term extensions for the library and housing boards (nominations included Dale Shepherd, Manuel Howard and Jeremiah Cody Prater). • Adoption of River Lane on Houdlury Branch as a county road pursuant to the cited KRS provision. • The court rescheduled its May meeting to May 20, 2026 at 5 p.m.
All routine items reported in the meeting packet were acted upon by motion and voice vote unless otherwise noted. The court adjourned after communications and acknowledgments of presenters and community volunteers.
Why it matters: The resolutions honor local service members and the approved administrative actions move forward county procurement, planning and service delivery matters; several items will require follow-up administrative work to implement (signage for memorial roads, procurement solicitations and any engineering for road adoptions).
