Court updates road plan, approves multiple interlocal road projects subject to local funding

The Cameron County Commissioners Court approved updates to its road maintenance plan and identified several interlocal road-improvement projects during its Jan. 13 meeting.
County staff (speaker 8) explained the 2025 road maintenance plan update, noting staff seek to keep a balanced program across precincts. For fiscal year 2026–27 the proposal adds 1.00 mile and removes 1.06 miles in Precinct 4; staff said removed roads may be considered in future plan renewals as conditions change.
The court also approved identifying Parker Road as a project to pursue with the city of Santa Rosa and approved motions to proceed with interlocal agreements with other municipalities for improvements to Wilcox Road, Tam Lane, Craigon Road and Rio Rancho Road (Primaera/Perimeter) and Kilborn Road and Crossett Road (Combs). Commissioners stressed each interlocal agreement remains subject to city approval and local funding commitments.
One commissioner recorded an abstention on an item tied to Primaera/Perimeter projects. Commissioners spoke about uneven progress across precincts, noting Precinct 3 has yet to begin its road project roadmap because new staff are still starting work. The court approved the plan updates and motions to move forward on project identification by voice vote.
