Elections administrator reports updated November 4 cost figures; commissioners acknowledge report

Elections administrator presented updated expense and turnout figures for the Nov. 4, 2025 joint special and general elections, saying county expense figures rose after personnel costs were finalized and that commissioners should review the packet for details.
The administrator said the county’s share shown earlier in the packet — about $226,000 — is now roughly $316,000 after personnel expenditures were adjusted and that overall countywide election costs for smaller elections historically ran about $800,000–$900,000 but recent staffing and operational changes reduced some general-election costs by about $200,000.
The administrator also reported that eight entities conducted elections on Nov. 4, 2025 and that one runoff remains for the city of South Potter Island; staff noted one incident described in their notes as a “fleeing voter,” in which a voter abandoned a ballot during the process and staff traced some ballots that were checked in but did not make it into the machines.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the figures and the administrator said the expenditure report is still being finalized. The commission moved to acknowledge the Nov. 4 report; the motion was seconded and the presiding judge called the motion carried.
The commission will have the final, audited numbers when the auditor’s office completes its review; staff said they would update the commissioners court as needed.
