Cameron County court approves $8.9 million in claims, adopts budget transfers

Cameron County Commissioners Court approved claims and a set of budget amendments during its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting.
Jose Blanco, the county's lead internal auditor, told the court that agenda item 4b included general claims totaling $8,921,697.78, medical claims of $1,043,422 and an estimated payroll for Jan. 16 with gross pay of $5,397,691 and net pay of $2,845,412. The court moved and approved the claims by voice vote.
Earlier in the action-items portion of the meeting, county staff presented a package of budget amendments and line-item transfers covering law enforcement, cybersecurity work, a colonia project, emergency-management equipment and courthouse camera replacements. The package also included preliminary funding for initiating a pedestrian bridge project. After brief discussion, commissioners voted to approve the amendments.
The approvals were taken as part of routine action items and the court recorded the votes by voice. No additional public comment was recorded during the items, and the court moved on to other business after the motions carried.
The court also approved minutes for its Dec. 2 and Dec. 16, 2025 regular meetings at the same session.
