Fayette County superintendent reports DOJ and NAACP LDF visit as unitary-status review continues

Superintendent Dr. McPherson told the Fayette County Public Schools board on March 5 that representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice who were unable to visit earlier due to a federal shutdown are now expected to meet with district representatives and members of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund next week as part of the district’s unitary-status review.
Dr. McPherson also offered condolences for district staff families who recently experienced losses and recognized Chason Yates for representing the district at the Tennessee School Boards Association leadership conference. He congratulated Fayette Ware High School’s Academic Decathlon team on winning the state championship and noted the team will travel to California in April for the national competition.
The superintendent reported well-attended listening sessions at all schools, highlighted a TVA energy-collaboration event at LaGrange-Moscow Elementary that included distribution of LED bulbs and energy resources, and reminded the board that benchmark testing is underway in preparation for Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) testing. He also noted spring break will be March 19–20 with schools closed.
