The Fayette County School Board on Nov. 6 adopted a set of policy updates reviewed by the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA).
Harold Rounds, chair of the Policy Committee, deferred to Superintendent Dr. McPherson to summarize the recommended edits, which included wording adjustments such as replacing instances of “will” with “shall” in specified policy lines (for example, Policy 1.501 and 1.802) and leaving other sections unchanged per TSBA guidance. No substantive policy reversals or new policy categories were introduced at the meeting.
Kevin Powers moved to approve the policies as explained; Harold Rounds seconded and the board approved the motion unanimously. The minutes record that certain policies (including 1.501, 1.600 and 1.802) were approved and that Policy 1.300 had been tabled earlier.
The board did not use the meeting to reopen substantive debate on the policies; the vote adopted the TSBA‑recommended wording changes. The district did not provide at the meeting an implementation timeline for the newly worded policies beyond their approval.
