FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn. — The Fayette County Public Schools board heard several transportation updates Oct. 2, including confirmation of a county check for two new buses and plans to modernize routing and on‑bus communications.
The Executive Committee reported a $311,000 check, above the usual review threshold, and confirmed the amount paid for two new school buses from the Maintenance budget. The committee said it reviewed the payment and found everything legal and in order.
Chairman Warner Speakman presented new secure AT&T FirstNet radios ordered for buses; installation is scheduled to begin next week. Board members said the district is reviewing the Athena Edulog routing and dispatch software; pending minor technical clarifications the contract will modernize routing, dispatch and parent communication. The district also plans GPS and parent portal integration and a parent hotline, and extended phone coverage from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Board members discussed staffing plans to improve driver reliability, including designating CDL‑certified coaches and new hires as substitute drivers. Maintenance staff also completed removal of rusted light poles from the old football field under budget and will sell the metal as surplus.
The board did not record detailed procurement contracts or vendor invoices in the minutes; the Executive Committee item documents the payment and scope as the purchase of two buses.
