The Fayette County Public Schools board unanimously approved several administrative items at a special called meeting on Dec. 3, 2025, including cancelling two December meetings, approving the district's annual LEA compliance report and selecting Forvis Mazars as the local auditing firm.
Chairman Warner Speakman proposed cancelling the scheduled Dec. 4 and Dec. 18 board and committee meetings because the County Commission will not meet in December; Powers moved to approve the cancellations, Miller seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Mr. Speakman introduced the LEA compliance item and Dr. McPherson explained the district is required to submit an LEA compliance form each year. He said the district had fewer findings this year—two last year versus one this year—and that the form had to be submitted earlier, prompting inclusion on the special called meeting agenda. Powers moved to approve the LEA compliance report, Miller seconded, and the board approved the report unanimously.
The board then voted to approve Forvis Mazars as the local audit firm. Dr. McPherson stated the local school audit covers each school and student accounts and is separate from the school board audit currently underway; board member Wilson had asked whether the audit included student accounts and board records, and Dr. McPherson clarified the distinction. Powers moved to approve the audit firm; Miller seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Votes at a glance: cancel Dec. 4 and Dec. 18 meetings — motion by Powers, seconded by Miller; outcome: approved (unanimous). Approve LEA compliance report — motion by Powers, seconded by Miller; outcome: approved (unanimous). Approve local audit firm Forvis Mazars — motion by Powers, seconded by Miller; outcome: approved (unanimous).
The meeting adjourned at 4:16 PM. Minutes were prepared by Shannon Starks.
