Committee advances $55,000 virtual-welder proposal and forwards emergency compressor purchase

Separately, committee members discussed an urgent need in the Mechatronics and Industrial Maintenance lab: staff said a clean-air compressor is required before about $500,000 of electronic equipment can be used. Because E-Plan procurement approval was not yet in place, staff advised an emergency purchase from general-purpose funds (141) with reimbursement from the 142 ISM grant after E-Plan approval; Dr. McPherson noted the amount falls within his approval threshold. The committee voted to send the compressor purchase to the full board for approval.
Both items were advanced with motions to move them to the full board; committee members emphasized using grant funds where available and following procurement rules before final purchase.
