Cameron County approves early-voting locations and keeps ballot-on-demand for March 3, 2026 primaries

Cameron County’s Commissioners Court approved recommended early-voting locations, dates and times for the March 3, 2026 Republican and Democratic primaries and confirmed the countywide ballot-on-demand system that allows voters to obtain their party’s ballot at any party location.

Elections administrator Remy told the court the parties selected many polling locations (about 57 Democratic and 30 Republican locations identified by the parties), and county staff presented 19 early-voting locations the elections office recommended for county administration. Remy said the office recommends Brownsville Public Library be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, and similar 12‑hour Saturday coverage be used in other communities to give more voters weekend access.

Remy explained statutory notice and timing: the court can modify locations up to about 30 days before the election and handle emergency changes up to seven days before if necessary; early-voting locations must be maintained for the entire early‑voting period once opened. He also reiterated that the county’s ballot-on-demand system remains authorized and that the county will continue issuing emergency and preprinted backup ballots at locations as needed.

Commissioners voted to approve the recommended locations and times. Staff said they will continue to finalize equipment distribution and monitor turnout patterns; they urged timely submission of any requested additions or changes.

Next steps: the elections office will post finalized locations and times as required by statute and continue coordinating equipment and staffing plans for early voting and election day.
