The Grand Traverse County Board approved renewal of the sheriff's contract with Axon to continue body-worn cameras, Tasers and evidence-management services (evidence.com).
Sheriff Mike Shea and Patrol Captain Brandon Bridal explained the county's earlier multi-year evaluation and said Axon has been the preferred system for deputies and the prosecuting attorney's office. Captain Bridal said early renewal yields a credit of approximately $19,277.70 and allows for equipment refreshes roughly every 30 months; an Axon representative (Kyle) confirmed the credit figure on the record and described modest annual savings built into the negotiated bundle.
Commissioners asked about timing and fiscal implications; staff said the early renewal aligns future renewal dates more closely with the county fiscal year and that evidence.com currently stores hundreds of thousands of items and tens of terabytes of data. Commissioners moved and the board approved the renewal on a motion and voice vote.
