Belgrade council approves mayoral pick to regional transportation board

The Belgrade City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved Mayor Nelson’s appointment of Rebecca Erberlin to fill a vacancy on the Gallatin Valley Urban Transportation District Board and reappointed the city’s current representative to continue serving on the same board.

Mayor Nelson told the council Erberlin was the sole applicant for the seat left open when Kim Cleary stepped down and recommended the council adopt the mayor’s letter of recommendation and Erberlin’s background. After asking for public comment and hearing none, the council moved to adopt the mayor’s appointment and reappoint the existing council representative; the motion carried without opposition.

Council members noted the district is in a period of transition with a newly formed transportation district and several moving pieces; one council member said keeping continuity on the board would help maintain institutional knowledge while the district stabilizes. The council did not request further materials before the appointment and no conditions were placed on Erberlin’s appointment.
