Bledsoe County Board alters three policies, including wording on student relocation for safety
Summary
The board deleted the Emergency Procedure section from Policy 1.600, removed the Released Time Course section from Policy 6.200, and revised the opening sentence of Policy 6.4081 (Safe Relocation of Students) to clarify who may relocate a student for safety reasons.
The Bledsoe County Board of Education approved amendments to three district policies at its Dec. 1 meeting.
On the recommendation of the Policy Review Committee the board voted to delete the Emergency Procedure section from Policy 1.600 (Policy Development and Adoption) and to remove the Released Time Course section from Policy 6.200 (Attendance). Both motions passed unanimously.
In new business the board amended Policy 6.4081 (Safe Relocation of Students) by changing its first sentence to read: "Teachers who are directly responsible for a student’s education or other employees who interact with students on a professional basis may relocate a student from the student’s present location to another location when such relocation is necessary for the student’s safety or the safety of others." The motion to adopt the revised wording was moved by Steve Perry, seconded by Bron Reece, and passed unanimously.
Board members conducted the votes as part of routine policy review; the changes remove two dated sections and clarify staff authority to relocate students in safety situations. The policies will be updated in the district policy manual.
