Bledsoe County board approves four para‑professionals for behavior support, grants tenure to six educators

The Bledsoe County Board of Education voted Dec. 1 to add four para‑professional positions to support student behavior and to grant tenure or reinstate tenure for six educators.
Director of Schools Dr. Kristy Walker said the district needed additional para‑professional staff to support behavioral needs at the elementary level. The board approved four positions — one each for Mary V. Wheeler and Cecil B. Rigsby and two for Pikeville Elementary — to be paid on the CDC para‑professional pay scale. The motion carried unanimously (moved by Jacob Frady, seconded by Steve Perry).
On separate motions the board approved tenure for Keaton Evans, Lora Stricklin, Lindsey Worthington and Lauren Miller and reinstated previously tenured teachers Peggy Powell and Brian Osborne. Board members requested that Board Attorney Howard Upchurch research what point in the school year tenure should be granted and report back to the board.
The personnel approvals are effective immediately under the board’s personnel authority; the pay scale and timing procedures will be implemented by district human resources and finance staff.
