Bledsoe County board raises employee increases to 5.5% and approves contracts, policy updates

The Bledsoe County Board of Education on July 10 approved a budget amendment to increase planned employee raises from 3% to 5.5% and took several other administrative actions, including awarding a waste-management contract and approving policy updates.
Finance Director Kara Walling asked the board to amend fund 141 to reflect a higher raise percentage; the board approved the budget amendment by recorded vote. The board also voted to approve the monthly financial reports for the month ending May 31, 2025.
The board approved a Volunteer Behavioral Health memorandum of understanding and authorized a Project Basic-funded position for Mary V. Wheeler plus a School Behavioral Health Liaison position at Pikeville Elementary. Maintenance Supervisor Brian Turner reported the only waste-management bid came from Sullivan in Spencer, Tennessee, for $42,000; the board accepted that bid.
Technology Coordinator Jennifer Terry presented an updated Acceptable Use Policy and a Student Portable Device Agreement; both were approved. The board also approved a set of policy updates and changes, including renaming staff references in Policy 1.407 to read "Human Resources," and adopted several student- and personnel-related policies as presented. Several other policies (6.312, 6.200, 4.605 and 4.602) were previously tabled pending further discussion and printing considerations for student handbooks.
All motions referenced in these actions were recorded in the minutes with the votes as noted in the official roll calls. The board delayed final handbook printing pending completion of the policy approvals that could affect handbook content.
