Bledsoe County Board approves increase to middle-school assistant coach supplements, makes raise retroactive

The Bledsoe County Board of Education voted unanimously on Oct. 13, 2025 to increase assistant coaching supplements at Bledsoe County Middle School from 3% to 4% and to add an assistant coach supplement for Bledsoe County High School flag football. Athletic Director Jason Reel presented the proposal during the meeting.

The board’s initial approval came during regular agenda Item 12, when Board member Steve Perry moved to adopt the increase and Mr. Don Snow seconded the motion; Chairman Andy Billingsley and all six other members voted in favor. Later in the same meeting the board moved to reconsider Item 12 and then approved a separate motion to make the supplement increase retroactive to the first day of the 2025–26 school year. That motion was made by Mr. Perry and seconded by Mr. Billingsley and carried unanimously.

Board minutes show the change is a 1-percentage-point increase (from 3% to 4%) for middle-school assistant coaching supplements; the minutes do not state dollar amounts or the exact payroll impact. The board did not record any opposing votes or abstentions on either the initial approval or the retroactivity motion.

The actions taken will affect how assistant coaches at Bledsoe County Middle School are paid for the current school year; the motion to make the increase retroactive means the board directed that the higher supplement apply to the pay period starting with the beginning of the school year. The minutes do not include implementation steps, an effective payroll date, or which department will process the change. School staff will need to apply the change in upcoming payroll runs.
