Parks director outlines Camp Grylick operations plan; trails and disc-golf near opening

Parks and Facilities Director John Chase presented an operations and management plan for Camp Grylick, reporting extensive volunteer work and near-term readiness for trail and disc-golf use.

Chase described three focus areas: programming (educational and youth offerings), park amenities (expanded trail network, disc golf, bouldering, waterfront clean-up, pump track) and facility use (rental policies and staged openings). Volunteers and partner groups contributed hundreds of hours to clearing trails, renovating amenities and making waterfront improvements. Staff have prepared cabin and lodge spaces, cleaned the pavilion and established a reservation and guest-services plan that includes a staffed presence in the park during operating hours.

Why it matters: the plan balances recreational access, education and environmental protection. The board discussed limits on private rentals (a 50-person cap based on township public-assembly rules), end times for amplified music (07:30 for private rentals) and restrictions to keep events self-contained on-site. The plan allows flexibility for large, programmed educational events while protecting neighbors and lake quality.
