Barnett also reported district enrollment of 1,585 students and an attendance rate of 94.07% as of Feb. 26, 2026. The minutes record those figures but do not provide further demographic breakdowns.
The board recognized recipients of the ACS RISE award for February/March: Sgt. Tony Byers (Athens City Middle School), Brandy Peake (Athens City Intermediate School), Rebekah Baker (Athens City Primary School) and John Dyer (Central Office). School principals and supervisors acknowledged the honorees.
Board member Johnny Coffman provided several legislative updates as the district’s Tennessee Legislative Network representative; the minutes summarize that updates were given but do not quote specifics. The minutes record there were no other communications, no unfinished business and no new business before the board.
