Athens City Board approves 2026–2027 academic calendar; routine business passes

Chris Adams, chair of the Athens City Board of Education, called the Dec. 8 meeting to order and the board approved the 2026–2027 academic calendar and several routine items.
The Calendar Committee recommended the 2026–2027 academic calendar, and Stan Harrison moved to approve it. Emily Forrest seconded and the motion carried. The board also approved the consent agenda, which included the Nov. 10 regular meeting minutes. Both motions were recorded in the minutes book as carried; no roll-call vote totals were recorded at the meeting.
Chair Adams recognized former board member Abby Carroll for eight years of service to the Athens City Board of Education and Athens City Schools. Adams also introduced district staff and guests in attendance.
The public comment period was opened and no one requested to speak. After routine business and several informational updates, the board adjourned at 5:39 p.m.
