Athens City Board swears in Joyce Snyder to fill vacant seat

The Athens City Board of Education administered the Oath of Office to Joyce Snyder during its regular meeting on Feb. 9, 2026, at the Athens City Schools Administration Building. Chairman Chris Adams announced Snyder’s appointment and the oath was administered by school board attorney Jimmy Mitchell.
The board recorded that the vacancy Snyder filled was created in November 2025 when Abby Carroll resigned her seat to run for Athens City Council. A quorum was present for the swearing-in; board members in attendance included Johnny Coffman, Beth Jackson, Emily Forrest and Stan Harrison, and Director of Schools Joe Barnett.
The minutes note the swearing-in and welcome to Mrs. Snyder; no additional motions or conditions related to the appointment were recorded. The meeting proceeded to the remainder of the agenda and adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
