Callahan County commissioners completed a set of routine administrative actions during their Dec. 8 meeting, approving minutes, payroll and bills, renewing a postage-machine lease, appointing investment and sick-leave committee members, and submitting appraisal-district board votes.
Sandra told the court that bank reconciliations required two adjustments and asked the court to delay final auditor-report approval until the second meeting in December. Commissioners approved the request to defer the auditor’s report. The court approved the Nov. 24 meeting minutes and the consent agenda items, and it accepted the sheriff’s routine inmate-count and overtime report.
Other approvals included a lease renewal for the Pitney Bowes postage machine at the same rate the county currently pays, authorizing Deborah (new treasurer representative) for text-pool access, adopting the county investment policy and adding a commissioner to the investment committee, and appointing members to the 2026 sick-leave pool committee (one commissioner, two elected department heads, the benefits administrator/treasurer and one nonsupervisory employee named Malia). The court also allocated its appraisal-district votes: all county votes (1,410) to Karen Lehi and Farm Road votes (470) to support Bunn Berry, as recommended by the city of Baird.
Finally, the court adopted a resolution supporting proposed legislation to exempt Texas counties from the state hotel occupancy tax; the resolution was presented as supportive of another county judge’s effort to carry the idea to the Legislature.
The meeting adjourned at about 10:04 a.m.
