Athens City Board approves consent agenda, hears enrollment and financial updates

At its Nov. 10 meeting, the Athens City Board of Education approved a consent agenda that included minutes from Oct. 13, the 2025–2026 LEA Compliance Report, the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) Accountability Report and quarterly financial reports.
Mr. Stan Harrison moved to approve the Consent Agenda; Mr. Johnny Coffman seconded and the motion carried, according to the minutes. Director of Schools Joe Barnett provided updates on the General Purpose and Federal Projects financial reports for September and October 2025; the minutes note that supporting documents were filed.
Barnett also reported that district attendance is 95.44% and enrollment is 1,625 students. The minutes indicate the personnel update was reviewed and accompanying documents are included in the minutes book.
The board recognized the October/November ACS RISE award recipients — Marsha Cook (ACMS), Shannon Brown (ACIS), Madalyn White (ACPS) and Cameron Looney (Central Office) — as principals and staff acknowledged the honorees. The board approved the membership of the 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year Selection Committee on a motion by Ms. Abby Carroll with a second by Mr. Johnny Coffman.
Under unfinished business, Director Barnett requested adding discussion of additional swings and water fountains at new school playgrounds to the Nov. 19 BOE Work Session. In new business, Mr. Coffman asked that a possible North City Sign Project be placed on the Nov. 17 BOE Work Session agenda. The meeting adjourned at 6:06 p.m.
